Time To Try A little Harder
There is no set time limit as to when you have to have made yourself give up smoking. Some smokers may be able to have the whole things done with in a matter of a few short weeks, while other smokers can take much longer. People usually don't start smoking all at once and for most people it is very difficult to stop smoking all at once. Even if you use gums or patches to help you along the way, for many it is still a start and stop process. That's alright as long as you remember that your ultimate goal is to give up tobacco completely.
The Toughest Times To Not Smoke
Every smoker knows exactly what those times are. When you first get up in the morning, when you have coffee, when you eat and before you go to bed at night. Driving can be a time you always smoke. You can find lots of opportunities during your day when you can allow yourself to smoke. You have made all of those particular times become associated with smoking each and everyday. The trick is to break those habits one at a time if necessary to beat them.
It is a little like flipping your smoking upside down. Instead of smoking when you first get up, try waiting at least an hour! That can seem like an eternity to a smoker when you want a cigarette, but it will be worth it if you can just wait that one hour! As was suggested on the previous page, don't smoke in your car. If you have kids, this should be one of the easier things to do. In fact, you already may not smoke in the car with your kids inside, so take it a step further and don't smoke when you are alone in the car.
Of course you know what is next on the list, eating. Almost every smoker has to have a cigarette when they finish eating. This issue like any of the other times you smoke is going to be very difficult. This one just might require those nerves of steel. JUst remember you must take it one step at a time, one meal at a time. Every time you can convince yourself to not grab that cigarette as soon as you finish eating, that is a small victoey and keep in mind that small victories win the war!
